Jim is Ronald G Graham's lead roofing surveyor — the one up the ladders working out exactly what a roof needs before a quote is written.

Jim surveys slate, lead and flat roofs across Edinburgh's tenements, conservation areas, villas and commercial buildings. His job is to see what a roof really needs — not just the leak you can see, but the fixings, flashings, sarking and timber behind it — so every quote is based on the true condition, not guesswork.

Much of the practical advice in our guides comes straight from what Jim sees on site: the common failures, the tell-tale signs, and the difference between a repair and a re-roof. Ronald G Graham also trains apprentices in partnership with Edinburgh College, and that hands-on, see-it-for-yourself approach runs through everything Jim writes.
